Undiscovered Nashville

Q
where you been?
A

We are coming back!

Luna boasts having the best view of Captain D’s in Music City, but I’m going to boast and say they have some of the best food in Music City! This little tiny meat and three/ gourmet family diner delivers something that a lot of other restaurants can’t… fresh food for a very reasonable price.

Upon entering, I immediately felt right at home. The staff is made of a bunch of unique characters that are friendly as can be… and they cook just like your mom or grandma!

The menu at Luna changes from week to week.. and they grow their own herbs on site!

What I got:
-Thai Pork Loin
-Creamed Corn
-Denise’s Ghetto Green Beans
-Whipped Potatoes
-Pumpkin Pie

Location:
2309A 8th Ave S, Nashville, TN

When to go:
M-F 11am-3pm

Upcoming Neighborhood Alert: “Marathon Village

Lightning 100 Radio has been located here for some time now… and with the recent addition of Antique Archaeology (store owned by Mike Wolfe of American Pickers), a cafe, and the new Marathon Music Works venue… we have a feeling this area is about to boom.

The Marathon Automobile Factory sets the perfect stage for a new little community of shops, businesses, and hopefully eateries. It has that raw/ urban feel, yet still maintains that “Nashville” vibe.

Our predictions… in a few years Marathon Village/ the FANG neighborhood will join in on the gentrification love that neighborhoods like East Nashville, Edgehill, & 12th Ave South have been coddling for some time.

Pre to Post Modern is far from the ordinary vintage/ thrift store! It has a funky/ retro feel that even carries over into it’s items. Stepping into the store is almost like taking a large step back into the days when things were “groovy” and cars were “bitchin!”

The best part about this store is that it is not just clothing! It has furniture, shoes, vinyl, cameras, lights, lots of knickknacks, and my personal favorite… vinyl records turned into bowls!

It is literally one of those stores you go in and end up spending hours…

Location:
2110 8th Ave South, Nashville, TN 37204
(South of Wedgewood Ave)

Best Time to Go:
Mon - Sat: 11am - 6pm
Sun: 1pm - 5pm

Smiley’s Soulful Kitchen might seem a little rough around the edges, but the friendly atmosphere will kill any of your fears right away.

Upon entering the restaurant you’re greeted by a smiling face (appropriately). The bright yellow walls definitely fit the whole atmosphere, and the menus are easy to understand.

The menu is full of your basic meat and three staples… fried pork, fried chicken, meatloaf, bbq chicken, steak tips… mac ‘n’ cheese, potato salad, green beans, fried green tomatoes, and many more. You can even order burgers and other sandwiches as well.

Smiley is not just a chef.  He is also a gospel minister, musician, and a family man. He will normally come out of the kitchen to greet customers at least one time during their visit.

My Suggestions
-Fried Green Tomatoes: I, personally like them better than Loveless Cafe’s
-Corn Bread: It is very sweet and pan fried
-Banana Pudding: This may be the BEST pudding I have ever had

Location:
3623 Gallatin Pike, Nashville
(It’s in East Nashville up Gallatin Pike… right before you hit Briley Parkway)

When to Go:
Mon - Tues: 10:30 am - 7 pm
Wed - Thurs: 10:30 am - 9 pm
Fri - Sat: 10:30 am - 10 pm
Sun: 11:00 am - 5 pm

Another blog is coming…

Expect the post early next week! Feel free to send us suggestions of place you love that you think are undiscovered…

The Front Porch/ Gallery F is a quaint little eclectic hangout for the artsy. The building houses galleries, a little library, gift shop (with handmade items), and a drink/ snack bar. It basically has everything you need along with amazing outdoor lounging spaces.

Currently, Gallery F is hosting an exhibit on Japan with several different kinds of art installations (anything from photos to video to sculpture).

Even if art is not your forte’, The Front Porch is the perfect place to relax and get some work done. It is a peaceful space.

The Front Porch/ Gallery F are both apart of the Scarritt-Bennett campus.
